GEMINI MONTHLY HOROSCOPE
January, 2008

The operative word for the month of January is "transformation". Six planets line up in your 8th House, the House of sex, rebirth and joint finances. Of those six, four are making themselves at home for the long term.

Jupiter, the good luck planet, has been in your 8th House since December 19, 2007, and will remain there until January 5, 2009. What this means for you is a spiritual breakthrough, an inheritance, or positive changes with a business partner. You may come out of this experience as a very different person! In general, joint income, investments, collection of debts, taxes, insurance, and the settlement of estate matters are areas affected by the current transit. The potential outcome is tricky to predict, since it includes circumstances that can increase assets, as well as situations that diminish assets through overestimation and extravagance. Requests for financial assistance are likely to be favored during this time. Progress and the growth of knowledge are easier to achieve with respect to analysis, investigation, or research. Enjoyment is apt to be felt on a much deeper level these days, and to spring as much from psychological satisfaction as physical gratification. Greater sexual enjoyment is a commonly expected consequence of this influence! However, the broader possibilities include gaining deeper understanding of the nature and purpose of sex as well as other forces of nature.

Saturn, the planet of Karma, went retrograde in your home sector on December 20th. Saturn will remain here until May 3, 2008. Should you be discouraged or disappointed with your home or domestic arrangement, you will be likely to change it during this transit. Because this is a relatively long-term period, many other influences will occur that may either emphasize its effect or perhaps mask it temporarily. Other significant factors that will contribute to the way you react, and ultimately to the way things turn out, include your age, maturity, and your past experiences. This influence has as much to do with the past as it does to the present. It will force you to throw out what is wasteful and to abandon unsuccessful situations, replacing them with something more solid and useful. In the case of this particular period, it means you will be constantly confronted with family relationships. Past disagreements or problems related to your family now demand resolution. You may be required to accept additional responsibilities for family members or with regard to your home. The effect of childhood conditioning is apt to be emphasized, and, if current negative attitudes and behavior have resulted from such conditioning, you now have the responsibility to confront and overcome it. You may resent the attempt of family members to restrict or impede your progress, while at the same time, should you treat them in similar fashion, they could also resent the interference. This transit spells the completion of an old cycle. For one reason or another, you will not be allowed to begin anything new if you have failed to take care of unfinished business. The highest rewards for correct actions during this cycle include stronger family ties, a more solid, successful domestic environment, and your emergence from one stage of life -- its success as well as its failure -- to begin another level of more productive learning and experience.

The Sun moved into Capricorn in your 8th House on December 23, 2007, and will remain there until January 20, 2008.
Your ego becomes involved with such priorities as money and status (or lack of either) gained through inheritance, business partners or marriage. The payment of debts you owe as well as collecting debts and favors that are owed to you are other concerns this month. By choice or circumstances you start developing or using skills that can make you more independent in financial and other ways. A medical emergency may arise, or you may decide to investigate or undergo elective surgery during this period. You may be confronted intellectually, psychologically, or physically with sexual matters and situations. Under this influence increased determination and willpower can make you more demanding and critical. It may be more difficult for you to make compromises but the enhancement of your focus and concentration can contribute to progress in research and investigative projects, and help you acquire a deeper understanding of psychological motivations and behavior.

Retrograde Mars will enter your 1st House, the House of Self and individuality, on January 2nd. This retrograde lasts until the end of January and provides abundant busy-body energy. You'll be able to accomplish quite a lot under this influence. The energizing influence it brings arouses your competitive spirit and inspires you to be more aggressive, perhaps even physically combative, than you may ordinarily be. Should contrary influences in the current circumstances prevent you from actually being more energetic, you are still likely to want to give others the impression of being very busy. You may be less patient and more restless. Many of your physical activities during this transit are directed to satisfying personal needs and goals. Consciously or subconsciously you seek to bring everything into your world rather than the other way around. If you have an accident or experience illness at this time, it is apt to involve your head or face. Be careful when handling sharp objects and hot or explosive materials! In general, when Mars, the god of war, transits the House of Self, you find yourself acting more boldly than you normally would. Be careful not to come off as dominating or controlling, and try not to take constructive criticism as an all out attack.

The New Moon on January 8th shows a potential conflict between your personal and joint finances. There could be a strain of sorts if something has happened to the stability of your joint account(s), especially if it means dipping into your personal finances. This is a short term transit, with the New Moon moving away from your 8th House by January 10th. But the results of whatever you do between the 7th and the 10th will last through the rest of this month, bearing out at the Full Moon on January 22nd.

Mercury, the planet of communication, has been in your 8th House since December 21, 2007, but will move into your 9th House on January 9th. The time spent in the 8th House signifies changes in your way of thinking, possibly brought on by somethingthat's happened to your loved one(s).
The 9th House is the House of mental exploration and long-distance travel. Mercury's energies in the 9th House bode well for new studies, going back to school or taking up a fun course of study through your local parks and recreation department for enrichment. In general, subjects that occupy your time and attention during this transit are likely to include: long distance travel, international business, or diplomatic endeavors, cultural events, court decisions, higher education, advanced training, study or use of foreign languages, religious or political interests, publishing, direct-mail promotions, or advertising. Under this influence, circumstances you encounter may require increased correspondence or discussions regarding a second marriage, in-laws, or a relative's health or job. Note that Mercury will go retrograde by the end of the month, on January 29th. This is sure to cause all sorts of communications upsets; with regard to traveling, flights could be delayed or overbooked. With regard to thinking and communication, be prepared to debate and defend your stance! If there are any contracts or legal paperwork that need signing, you would do well to get this out of the way before January 20th, well ahead of the retrograde.

The rule for January is to keep calm, cool, and collected. With Mercury and Mars (discussed below) both in retrograde this month, the potential for anger, frustration and explosiveness is great. Knowing this ahead of time, you can remember to count to ten, to take a break, to walk away from the conflict and just breathe. This too shall pass!

The Moon will be full on January 22nd, and anything you started back at the beginning of January has great potential to come to fruition now. The Full Moon occurs on the cusp of your 2nd and 3rd Houses - that is, the seeds sown in your House of joint finances now pay off in your House of personal finances and your House of communication or short-distance travels.

Venus enters your 8th House on January 25th, and stays until February 17th. This lends some great energy towards new or existing sexual relationships, as well as financial partnerships. Joint income and social status, acquired either through marriage or business partnership, are two issues likely to surface for one reason or another during this transit. Common goals and values are also apt to play no small part in the circumstances that occur. Under this influence you are likely to feel more intense with regard to social contacts as well as romance or sexual encounters, especially from the standpoint of psychological motivations and behavior patterns involved in these relationships. This can be a productive time in which to participate in group therapy. Pleasures are bound to be more deeply felt, though a certain lightheartedness may be missing. If there are no obvious impediments to prevent you from doing so, this is a good time to ask for loans or favors as well as to collect on loans that you are owed.

Pluto lands in your 8th House on January 26th, and will stay for five months, until June 14th. Pluto is the planet of change, so expect some big changes during the first half of this year, which will last many years. Pluto in the 8th House deals with matters of death and inheritance. This transit carries much depth and power of transformation but because of the length of this period's duration, you will only witness evidence of it at certain times, usually during the months when it begins (starting this month), and at various times over the next several months when other circumstances and influences occur to trigger it. Much of what takes place will depend upon the appropriateness of your age, level of maturity, and past experiences. Naturally, the more you are aware of this powerful influence and its potential, the more you will understand and be able to use it to attain personal growth and other positive goals. The nature of this influence is an increased urge to seek ultimate control and a position of greater power in specific areas of your life. The target areas during this particular period include your attitude and activities involving joint income and property, inheritance, taxes, and insurance. Your understanding of investment, payment as well as collection of debts, and finances in general will increase. While these areas at first seem rather mundane, the actual experiences you are likely to have concerning them are profound and result in changes in other areas of your life. Income and joint assets may be gained or lost during this long period, but you will learn that your personal worth cannot really be measured by such things. In the end, the control and personal power you seek will transcend material wealth or the lack of it. What will matter is that the development of your skills and talent can, if necessary, be used to make you financially independent of joint income, but more importantly, they represent your worth and uniqueness as an individual. Another important focus under this influence is psychological analysis. By choice or circumstance you are forced to question your motives and behavior as well as to analyse the motives and behavior of those who have had or still have a great deal of influence over you. Gaining personal power and greater control is the object of this period and there is no better place to start than by gaining a deeper understanding of yourself. I must note here that you consider the fact that you also have strong potential to deal with inheritance or joint finances through Jupiter this month. Add to that the fact that the New Moon is also happening in the 8th House in January. All of this change may occur anywhere from the end of December to the end of January, and may be as innocuous as rewriting the terms of your joint finances and the will or power of attorney of a loved one to an actual death.

Lastly, if you find yourself wondering why there's so many computer outages and glitches, and wondering if the world has hit an early Mercury retrograde, check it out: as of January 3, 2008, we've entered an eleven-year solar storm caused by erupting spots on the Sun. Giant blasts of solar energy will be bathing the Earth in its wake between 2008 and 2019, with peak activity in 2011 or 2012 according to noaa.gov's website.
These solar blasts are so strong that they can take down entire power grids, not to mention your cell phone connectivity. The plus side to such an event is that the aurora will be absolutely beautiful for those living far enough north to see the Northern Lights.
